Setting up for Comic Con Salt Lake City 2014

Today was spent setting up for Comic con 2014.

I thought that the tables for Artist's Alley was 10x10.
Nope.
They are 6x5.
I was really disappointed because I planned for a 10x10 booth.
Arghhhh.

Anyway, it still looks to be cool and we are pumped up to be there.

Here are some pics of our setup.

still early for setup.

My African Friends 2014

Meet Antony and Sebastian and their two Axtell Apes.

(Thanks Steve Axtell!!!)

I thought it would be fun to take a couple of apes designed by Steve Axtell to Kenya.
The kids loved them. They held them, petted them, held them like a baby.
Lots of giggles. Lots of fun.
Go Jazz.

Sebastian (left) Antony (right)

The kids love to play games.

Skit time! What a blast!

Comic Con Is Here!!!

Comic Con is finally here. Am I prepared?

Nope.

I'm just gonna go and chalk it up as an experience.

Here are some art covers for some books I wrote.

More to come!

Guardians of the Gondwanians Fan Art

I love the gurdians of the galaxy movie.
Way cool.

So I couldn't resist making a Hubbel tribute to all guardians everywhere.

Go Hubbel...or is that StarBooby?

DEVOURAX UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Yes. Under Construction.
I know it sucks, but it is what it is.
My website so soooo old and outdated.
I think the last time I updated it was way back in 2006.

So, I will get another website up and going.
Be patient.

"May The Blue Be With You."

More Hubbel Artwork

I just love this little comic.

Please be patient.
Things are picking up steam.

I hope you will give me a chance to get this comic moving.
I am posting some artwork for encouragement.

Enjoy!!

Comic Con

Come by and say HI.

Update

So, Since being back from Africa...I have had to re-evaluate a few things.
Being in a third worls country sure changes your perspective.

1- I want to do MUCH MORE humanitarian work in Africa. So, proceeds from my books and comics will go to feed my humanitarian addiction.

2- I need to finish more Hubbel comics. I have already begun tackling this issue. I have been hard at work drawing Hubbel Galore for Comic Con SLC.

3- I will be finishing up a book a year. I will use createspace on amazon. Print on demand baby.

Comic Con!!!!!!!!

Yes. Comic Con Salt Lake City is here and I will be there.
I would love to meet any fellow Loony Boobies.

I will be selling prints and hanging out.

Come by!

I'm BAAAACK!

Hello my fellow "Loony Boobies".

I am back.

After some travel out of the country, and some major recharging,
I am getting ready for an official "Hubbel" debut in September of 2014.

I love doing humanitarian work in Africa.
I realize that in order to fund my obsession for helping the poor
children in Naivasha, Molo and Nukuru - Kenya Africa...I need to keep
pushing my comic out there in the world.

I just spent a month in Africa at a school where I helped build rock fences, built/ repaired shelving and helped organize a library. We also took 25 duffel bags full of school and medical supplies.
It was an amazing experience. (I also did this in 2001)
I want to make this a yearly event, so I need to do something that can generate awareness, proceeds, and maybe Hubbel can help.

Ok, Hubbel. Get your groove ahn and do yo thang!

So as you will see, Hubbel is very much alive and well in the universe.

More to come.

Gotta keep on keeping on.

Peace out!

Hubbel 2014

My fellow Loony Boobies,
After a few weeks off for the Christmas holiday, I have been able to take a step away from my creative endeavors and get a little perspective.
I have decided that I am going to do a couple things different in 2014.

I have been trying to post a Hubbel comic daily for the past few months.
Due to time constraints, this has been fairly difficult for me and my family.

I am trying to finish up my book, "Ivan the Terrible Loveable" and a Hubbel comic book
for some upcoming conventions. So my time is very valuable...and very sparse.

So, as I move forward....here are some 2014 goals...

- I want to make the comic even better. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface with Hubbel and it's possibilities. I will spend more time on each comic rather than the rushed hour or two that I have been allocating. He needs a little more lovin and attention.

- I will post 2-3 times each week. (includes the random Friday)

- more positive messages!!!

Thanks!
May the Blue Be With You.

It's Random Friday!

Wow...these Fridays sure seem to come fast...

Christmas is just around the corner.
How are you preparing for Christmas?
Are you giving a gift that is meaningful?

A Brother Like That
A friend of mine named Paul received a new car from his brother as a pre-Christmas present.  On Christmas Eve, when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it.
“Is this your car, mister?” he asked.
Paul nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.”
The boy looked astounded. “You mean your brother gave it to you, and it didn’t cost you anything? Gosh, I wish…”
He hesitated, and Paul knew what he was going to wish. He was going to wish he had a brother like that.  But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”
Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively added, “Would you like a ride in my new car?”
“Oh, yes, I’d love that!”
After a short ride the urchin turned with his eyes aglow and said, “Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little.  He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile.  But Paul was wrong again.
“Will you stop right where those steps are?” the boy asked.  He ran up the steps.  Then in a little while, Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast.  He was carrying his little polio-crippled brother.  He sat down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up right next to him and pointed at the car.
“There she is Buddy, just like I told you upstairs.  His brother gave it to him for Christmas, and it didn’t cost him a cent, and someday I’m gonna give you one just like it; then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I’ve been trying to tell you about.”
Paul got out and lifted the little lad into the front seat of his car.  The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride.
That Christmas Eve, Paul learned what Jesus meant when He said, “It is more blessed to give…”

It's Random Friday!!!!

I have a lot to be thankful for. Too much to list, so I will leave a quote...

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.”
Cicero

“If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough.”
Meister Eckhart

So take a moment, and be thankful.

Random Friday!!!

My daughter sent me this link about a mom, Mica Angela Hendricks, who collaborates art with her 4-year old daughter.

Mom and 4- year old

I love this quote..."And from it all, here are the lessons I learned:  to try not to be so rigid.  Yes, some things (like my new sketchbook) are sacred, but if you let go of those chains, new and wonderful things can happen.  Those things you hold so dear cannot change and grow and expand unless you loosen your grip on them a little.  In sharing my artwork and allowing our daughter to be an equal in our collaborations, I helped solidify her confidence, which is way more precious than any doodle I could have done.  In her mind, her contributions were as valid as mine (and in truth, they really were).  Most importantly, I learned that if you have a preconceived notion of how something should be, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE DISAPPOINTED.  Instead, just go with it, just ACCEPT it, because usually something even more wonderful will come out of it."

very very cool.

Random Friday!

Quote, " Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself." George Bernard Shaw

I read an article lately that really inspired me about creativity. It basically said that we are all creators. EVERYONE. Everyone can create something beautiful whether it be an art piece, a music piece, a garden, or a small corner of the house. You don't need money, position, or influence to create. You just have to have a desire.

I quote from the article, "You might say, “I’m not the creative type. When I sing, I’m always half a tone above or below the note. I cannot draw a line without a ruler. And the only practical use for my homemade bread is as a paperweight or as a doorstop.
If that is how you feel, think again, and remember that you are spirit daughters/sons of the most creative Being in the universe. Isn’t it remarkable to think that your very spirits are fashioned by an endlessly creative and eternally compassionate God? Think about it—your spirit body is a masterpiece, created with a beauty, function, and capacity beyond imagination. But to what end were we created? We were created with the express purpose and potential of experiencing a fulness of joy. Our birthright—and the purpose of our great voyage on this earth—is to seek and experience eternal happiness. One of the ways we find this is by creating things.

You may think you don’t have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us. The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano. Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter.

What you create doesn’t have to be perfect. So what if the eggs are greasy or the toast is burned? Don’t let fear of failure discourage you. Don’t let the voice of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside.
If you still feel incapable of creating, start small. Try to see how many smiles you can create, write a letter of appreciation, learn a new skill, identify a space and beautify it."

and this is my favorite part.....

"The more you trust and rely upon the Spirit, the greater your capacity to create. That is your opportunity in this life and your destiny in the life to come. Trust and rely on the Spirit. As you take the normal opportunities of your daily life and create something of beauty and helpfulness, you improve not only the world around you but also the world within you."

It is what makes us happy and makes for a happier life.
This is why I create.

Now go and create something wonderful.
